The Alvey House
931 North Michigan Ave
Bungalow Heaven
Pasadena, CA 91104
Located in Pasadena’s Bungalow
Heaven Landmark District, this circa 1912 Craftsman
Bungalow home with distinctive crossed gables retains all
its original architectural elements. An inviting covered
front porch and a 4-foot wide solid wood front door with
beveled glass windows welcomes you. It has most of its original
cabinetry, windows, doors, and moldings throughout. There
are oak floors under the carpet. The unique brick fireplace
(wood and gas) has a wide wall-to-wall mantle and built in
bookcases in the living room. The 3 nicely sized bedrooms
have large closets. The spacious kitchen retains its original
cabinetry and the adjoining laundry room includes a Whirlpool
washer and dryer. The upgraded bathroom has all Kohler fixtures,
including a Jacuzzi bathtub. The spacious backyard features
covered cement and brick patio and a side lattice potting
room, a garage with carport and a bonus 33x22 cement slab.
There is a huge attic that’s perfect for extra storage. A
newer chimney was built in 1991. Newer roof was placed in
1992. The electrical was upgraded to 200 amps in 1996. A
newer sewer line was replaced in 2006.
In 1912 Leora L. Alvey hired local contractor Borg & Larson
to build this home, in the El Dorado tract. On April 10,
2008 Bungalow Heaven Landmark District was listed by the
United
States Department of Interior
in the National Register of Historic Places. As a result
of the listing, Bungalow Heaven has also been listed in the
California’s Register of Historical Resources. The City of
Pasadena lists this home as a “contributing” home to its
historic inventory. As they say in Bungalow Heaven......"come
for the architecture, but stay for the people".
